Hair, Makeup, Costumes and Accessories

We know you want your dancer to look their very best onstage – we do too! Crisp, clean costumes, stage makeup, and a uniform hair style are an important part of having a professional appearance for performances. Please follow this guide to help your dancer look their very best!

Hair

Please follow the hair guidelines specified by your dancer’s teacher.

Guide for a perfect bun

Things you will need:
  • Hairnet
  • Brush or comb
  • Bobby pins
  • Thick black hair ties
  • Hairspray

Makeup

Stage lights wash out and flatten facial features on performers. In order for you to see your dancer’s beautiful face on stage, it is essential to wear stage makeup. Please note that we are not promoting the use of makeup for young girls out in public, but rather teaching them the appropriate use within the art form of dance.

Female dancers should use foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara, and red lipstick.

Costumes and Accessories

Costume Tips

  • Double check all costumes, shoes, tights, and accessories before/after Picture Day, Dress Rehearsal, and Recital.
  • Costume bags have handy zippered pockets for all costume accessories, tights, and shoes.
  • To ensure that there are no costume problems, students should not wear their costumes, accessories, or tights prior to recital photos, dress rehearsal, or the recital.
  • Please do not wash costumes in your washing machine; dry clean them only (after the recital).
  • To release wrinkles, hang the costume on a hanger in the bathroom and use steam from the shower.

Required Tights and Shoes

One pair of tights are included with applicable costumes. Additional tights may be purchased at the front desk.
