Tap Masterclasses with Ethan Sherry
March 23 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Please join us for a masterclass with renowned Chicago tap dancer Ethan Sherry!
Ethan is from South Bend, Indiana where he grew up studying tap under Jerry Flint and Sheri Flint-Gordan. He has also trained in jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and ballroom dance. He competed in dance nationally as a member of his home studio’s competition group. Through competition, he was awarded a position in the off-Broadway tap production: Break The Floor. He also received multiple scholarships from Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) to attend their annual Rhythm World festival. Through the festival, he has been fortunate enough to take class with hoofing legends such as Lane Alexander, Sam Weber, Dianne Walker, Derick Grant, and Jason Samuels-Smith.
After graduating from Indiana University in 2012, Ethan moved to Chicago and began an Emerging Artist internship with Redmoon Theater. He also began taking tap classes at the American Rhythm Center (ARC). Since then he has performed with CHRP’s company ensemble, BAM; he was a student in the Institute for the Rhythmic Arts program led by Nicholas Young; he became the head tap instructor at Legere Dance Centre; he joined the Chicago based tap company ‘333’ as well as New Orleans-based tap/brass band ensemble ‘Tap That Brass’. He also recently accepted a teaching position at the ARC and was given his first festival faculty position, at the Jazz City Tap Fest. Ethan is focused on articulating Tap Dance as a refined American art form that, as long as it exists, will continue to evolve and enrich the lives of those who practice it.
